The 25 km LSD attempt ended at 23.40 km. At a finish line 1.60 km short, I saw the training I still need and chose the next run over surrendering my runner status.

On September 7, I attempted a 25 km LSD run. I covered 23.40 km in 2:40:21, averaging 6:51 per kilometre with an average heart rate of 147. The target was only 1.60 km away, but my legs would not move. I walked the final 2 km. In the end, I sank down at the 25 km threshold.

Two substantial runs have brought my September total to 35.57 km. Yet after 23.40 km, I felt unworthy of new shoes, a singlet, or even the word runner. What today exposed was not a lack of status but a lack of training. I pick up the whip for a moment and resolve to be more diligent, more consistent, and stronger.

Last issue, I asked whether to buy the Endorphin Azura. I kept asking myself the same question throughout today's run, and I still have no answer. Today I decided I had not earned it. But no running shop asks for a monthly 150 km certificate at the door. Shoes are nice, but right now I want strong legs that can carry me over long distances. Good. Keep going. Then again, might a super trainer suit me better than a carbon-plated shoe for the full marathon? Is the answer Azura? Ha ha.
