Today, I Lost
the 2:00 Balloon
I chased the two-hour pacer's balloon at 5:40 per kilometre early on. The pace became difficult after 8 km, but I gathered myself and reached the Ganghwa seaside finish in 2:07:13.

I completed the half marathon at the 26th Ganghwa Beach Marathon in 2:07:13, averaging 6:01 per kilometre. Early on, I worked hard to follow the two-hour pacer's balloon at 5:40 pace, but holding that speed became harder than expected after 8 km. I settled into the low sixes, briefly slipped into the high sixes and low sevens, then gathered myself and kept trying to stay inside 6:30 through the finish.
I had not slept quite enough, and Monday's 23.40 km LSD may still have been in my legs; even at the start, my energy felt slightly low. Still, 23.40 km on September 7, 10 km on the 10th, and 21.01 km today made 54.41 km, my highest weekly mileage yet. September already stands at 66.58 km. There are 133.42 km left to reach 200, so the medal can go on the wall while I get back to running consistently.

The course along the western shore of Ganghwa was better than I expected. The sea stayed beside us, and both lanes of the road were closed to traffic, leaving plenty of room for the field. There were no serious bottlenecks or heavy crowding. Local police and race staff supported the course, water stations were plentiful, and three or four water trucks sprayed runners along the way in case the temperature rose. The route was not perfectly flat; a few small hills made it more interesting. Apart from the 2-hour-20-minute journey home, it was a race I would happily run again.
